North Cental Plains
Sub-regions,Cities,and Points of Interest:
Some sub-regions are Cross Timbers, Rolling Plains, and Grand Prairie. The major cities in this region are Fort Worth, Arlington, Denton, Brownswood, and San Angelo.
Vegetation and Climate:
The climate in this area has very hot summers and cool winters. This region has moderate winds per day, and can get up to 20 inches of rain per year. The vegetation here are trees, mesquite, brush, and grasses.
Vocabulary:Buttes - large, similar land forms with flat tops.
Mesas- A broad, flat-topped elevation with one or more clifflike sides, common in the southwest United States. Resevoir - A natural or artificial pond or lake used for the storage and regulation of water. Cohesive - Closely tied together. |
Landforms and Bodies of Water:Some landforms in this region are buttes, mesas, and canyons, for example, the Palo Duro Canyon. The only river in this area is the Red River.
